Marvel Superhero Movies to come in the next years

As I am also a big fan of Superhero movies and since Disney just bought Marvel for 4 billion Dollars I thought it is a good time to post some upcoming movies. Let's hope they will be awesome.

First we can look forward to the new Iron Man movie. Iron Man 2 is coming out in 2010 and I am expecting it to be a great movie.

I was really surprised that Iron Man was so good because it surpassed all my expectations and I think is one of the best Marvel movies made.

The cast for the second movie includes Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle who has replaced Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke who is playing Backlash and Scarlett Johansson who is portraying Black Widow.

A rumor I just came across is a movie called X-Men: First Class. What will be included in this movie and who is playing in it I have no idea, but it is said to be released in 2010. A bit later i read that they are still in the script writing stages say nobody know what happens with this project and if it is going to be released next year.

In 2011 there will be several Superheroes who will put on their disguise again or for the first time.

Spiderman 4 will be released. With Tobey Maguire swinging between the buildings again the only question is who is going to be the villain and what is the story going to be. I personally think it is time for the Lizard to appear as Dr Connors has been shown in the past movies and he should be a great villain. We will have to see.

After the success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine there will not only be a second backstory for Wolverine but also X-Men Origins: Magneto will be hitting the theatres in 2011.

There are many discussions about favorite characters and people would like to see the origins stories of Gambit, Nightcrawler and so many others. I would like to point out that there is time and in time and with continuous success of the superhero movies there will be more origin movies for more characters.

Speaking about X-Men Origins: Wolverine there was a character introduced in that film portrayed by Ryan Reynolds who will also get a stand alone movie. Deadpool will be released in 2011

More new characters will hit the screen with the upcoming Thor movie. Directed by Kenneth Branagh I am expecting a well established story. Starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman this movie could turn out to be a hit.

Probably the most anticipated Marvel movie to come out 2011 is The First Avenger: Captain America.

With hardly any definite information and still no decision who is going to be the Cap fans are waiting for every bit of  on this front. People would like to see Jensen Ackles, Matt Damon, Alexander Skarsgard, Thomas Jane, Jason Lewis and many others. Only one can be the Cap.

After having introduced all characters then in 2012 The Avengers will hit the theatres.

In 2013 apperently there is going to be another try in making a Fantastic Four movie. Whether the 4 heroes will be portrayed by familiar faces is not sure, yet.

There is still room for more, so we will have to wait and see.

I say this already makes a very full schedule for superhero movie fans.

Review: Public Enemies

I went to the movies yesterday to watch Public Enemies.

Spoilers ahead so if you want to read it, you have to mark the text.

I was looking for a good gangster movie like Road to Perdition but what I was in for I had not expected.
You can say that it had some good intentions with old ideas, which did not work out as intended. Therefore it was "just good". I was disappointed as it could have been an exceptional movie.
The movie seemed to have been shot with a lot of hand held cameras, and there were way too many dark scenes.
Sometimes I was blinded by the headlights of cars shining in the direction ofthe camera which was a very unpleasant experience.
The intentions surely were to put the audience right in the middle but it did not work at all as it took me out of the movie experience and made me aware of the cinema surrounding I was in.
The worst part of the movie was the sound. At first I thought there was something wrong with the cinema but after doing some research on imdb and browsing the comments I saw that most had a similar experience.
It is said that the noise of the tommy gun would influence your hearing so we would hear less of what is said but seriously there were times where I hardly understood the dialogue.
Surely the realism intended by Mann needs some adjustment.
The performances by Bale and Depp were solid but not exceptional or special. Just what you could expect by them. However I was missing the fire.
DeNiro and Pacino portrayed much more likeable characters in Heat and I have to say that I prefer Heat as a modern gangster movie many times over Public Enemies.
Over all I I would say the movie was good, but nothing special. If the sound "problems" will be fixed for a DVD release this film could be enjoyed at home maybe more than on a big cinema screen.
That is all for now.

Review: GI JOE - No

I just returned from GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

I have to say that I am disappointed. While Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had at least entertained me GI Joe did not achieve that.

Spoilers are coming so if you plan to watch the movie, please skip the rest of this post.

I did not care much for any of the characters. They were not very likeable and it seemed to me that even though the movie was 2 hours long, nobody had much screen time. CGI was more dominant.

Please could someone tell me why the newbies in the team get to wear the million dollar suits instead of the veterans who know their full functions?

How come a footsoldier, granted he is an officer, knows how to cruise with a submarine jet, he just discovered?

I should not be looking for logic here, as these movies can get deconstructed easily but in an elite unit I had hoped for some more realism within the fantasy.

Most of the shots were edited so quickly I had problems to see what was going on. I liked the martial art sequences though.

Often I felt like I was watching Return of the Jedi with new characters. The end was almost a parralel of the ending of Jedi. Fight sequences outside under water instead of in space, cutting to the General, Duke hardly escaping the explosion of the tunnel they were in just looked like Lando getting out of the Second Death Star with the Millenium Falcon.

The only thing I liked was the cameo appearances of Brendan Fraser and Arnold Voslo.

Being a fan of The Mummy I had hoped for more humor and a little bit more substance than was presented.

Keeping in mind that it is only an action movie, it failed to deliver for me.

Not entertaining enough to be a hit, or even to have in my DVD collection. Disappointing. Now I am sad I did not save the money. Public Enemies, which is coming to the cinemas next week, should be better.
